Friday, January 6th, 2012

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) announced this week that U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will testify on Feb. 2 before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee about his role in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ now-infamous “Operation Fast and Furious.”

Rumor Alert: Veterans’ Health and “Sporting Purposes” Among the thousands of questions NRA-ILA answers every month by email, phone and letter are scores that begin “This guy told me he heard …” Unfortunately, all too often this is the telltale sign of one of the rampant rumors that circulate around campfires or gun store counters, and especially on the Internet. Three of the most recent top rumors involve veterans’ gun rights, the status of the “sporting purposes” test for firearms importation, and new restrictions on gun shows.

GLOCK Immediate Action

All firearms can fail, including the reliable Glock pistol. Training and practicing for the worst-case scenario is the best solution for this issue. This would involve live-fire and dry-fire of all the remedies for any possible malfunctions your particular weapons platform could create during a firefight. In essence, you have to be ready to clear the malfunction and get the firearm back into the fight.

Immediate action is a reaction to the weapon not firing. Without spending time to evaluate the reason the Glock has malfunctioned, there is a solution that will fix most of the problems or malfunctions that may occur with the firearm. This reaction could cure a Fail to Fire, Fail to Eject, Fail to Extract, or the slide is out of battery. One malfunction response to fix multiple problems will save time if you need to launch bullets at a threat. There was some reason you pressed the trigger and it would seem a good time to fix your primary gun, or transition to another firearm to take care of the situation. Here is a description of the quick reaction to get the GLOCK pistol running.

The trigger was pressed intending to shoot at a threat, but it did not fire. If you are standing static, the first thing that should happen is for the officer to move off the line of attack while executing this immediate action drill. As you move, the support hand come off the grip and slaps the bottom of the magazine, to guaranty the magazine is seated in the magazine well of the Glock. The support hand then moves to the top rear of the slide on the grasping groves and racks the slide back while the firing hand pushes forward in a “push-pull” method. The support hand comes off the slide when it has traveled the full length of the frame to the rear and the recoil spring loads the GLOCK as the slide moves forward on it own power. This action should have dumped any bad round or casing out of the ejection port, loaded a fresh cartridge into the chamber and the GLOCK should be ready to fire. If the chamber was empty for some reason, it will load a new round out of the magazine into the chamber and accomplishing the same result, a loaded firearm while the officer is moving off of the line of ………
